A Little Rain for Luck

I had been watching the weather for West Branch, Iowa on the weather app the entire week leading up to Max and Jamie’s big day—there was no doubt they’d be getting some rain for good luck, so I packed up my car with all my camera gear and seven clear umbrellas for the bridal party and hit the road back to Iowa. When I woke up Saturday morning, the first thing I heard when I shut my alarm off was the WIND. It was howling outside and I could see it making the trees outside shake and sway. Gulp. Lucky for me, Jamie is an absolute gem—seriously the chillest bride ever—and didn’t seem to be phased by the weather. She just swapped in her weddings shoes for some rain boots during pictures and was a champ the entire day.

My favorite part of the day was Max and Jamie’s first look. Molly (my little sister and second shooter for the day) and I had been hanging out with the bridesmaids and bride all morning, so we drove Jamie over to the property where Max would be seeing her in her dress for the first time. I headed down to the gazebo where Max was waiting and let him know she was coming.  We waited together for her to make her way down the hill in her rain boots, umbrella in hand, and I could tell he was a bundle of nerves.

The second he saw her, Max pulled her into a hug, tears streaming down his face. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t tear up a little at the sheer love that shone on his face as he told her how beautiful she looked. Scroll down to see the pictures from the sweetest first look ever (sorry Max!) and my other favorites from the day!
