There are some sessions that make me want to teleport home the minute they’re over so I can start editing sneak peeks RIGHT AWAY, and Meaghan and Sam’s Gilt Bar Chicago engagement session was absolutely one of those. It was the combination of (1) Meaghan’s effortlessly chic outfit and her love for the tiny detail shots I obsess over too; (2) Sam’s energy and him mentioning more than once that he was having fun taking photos (my favorite thing to hear!); and (3) the atmosphere and backdrops. We started the afternoon tucked inside the swanky, golden-lit magic of Gilt Bar with some Frank Sinatra playing in the background, and ended on an iconic Chicago bridge over the river.
When they first reached out about wedding photography, they shared their hopes for wedding photos that felt like a true reflection of their relationship. They want a blend of timeless portraits, fun dancing photos that feel alive, quiet little in-between moments, their private vows, and a touch of dreamy, romantic film. Most of all, that they want their wedding to be fun for everyone, including themselves.
After meeting and photographing them, I can safely say that vision fits them perfectly. Even during their engagement session, they brought this balance of elegance and ease, style and silliness, romance and realness. They were present with each other, genuinely enjoying the process, which always leads to photos that feel like them rather than poses on a checklist.
If their engagement session was any indication, their wedding is going to be overflowing with warmth, laughter, gorgeous details and moments, and so much love. Counting down the days already!!!
